  EDUCATION COORDINATOR


PUNARCHITH, a collective based in Chamarajnagar district, and working on developing an alternative learning programme for rural youth, is keen to recruit a person who can coordinate /liaison between the group, educational institutions and the government department (esp education), for a course called ‘INTEGRATED LEARNING’. The course will be conducted over a period of seven months (June 2015 to January 2016) and the learners (ages 18 to 23 years) will come to the PUNARCHITH learning centre (Nagavalli, 12 kms from Chamarajnagar town) for contact classes that are held for about 10-12 days of the month. The course is designed to develop a pool of youth who can be retained through viable livelihoods in the rural areas and emerge as catalysts and leaders  in/for their communities.  The course consists of four modules that focus on (1) Agriculture and Ecology (2) Social Issues (3) Citizenship  (4) General skills of Kannada, English, computers, and Accounts.  The overall pedagogic approach draws on ideas of place-based education, critical thinking, and social transformative education.  The course is supported financially by WATIS (Wipro Applying Thought in School), Bengaluru.
The COORDINATOR’S responsibilities will entail the following:
 - engage and participate closely with the ‘Integrated Learning Course’ (Samagruha Kalike Karyakrama) that Punarchith has developed and is evolving for rural youth.
- develop a set of educational objectives of the course and imagine age appropriate content when taken to schools (especially government and rural schools).
 - build relations at appropriate levels of government and with other organizations working in the space of work and education, basic education etc. Initiate a pilot course with a few schools in Karnataka.
 - advocate the idea and initiate possibilities of scaling it within government schools; in the district and even in Karnataka and to some extent on broader fora across the country.
 The person should have the following abilities:
 - experience of at least 4-5 years in development work or engaging with government departments. 
 - experience in development sector and education preferred.
 - ability to learn quickly, adapt and be action oriented. Should be able to do a detailed documentation of the course.
 - be practitioner focussed (ability to make this work with educators)
 -have knowledge of Kannada (at least speaking) and ability to work with the team in a democratic and collective manner are also essential.
Remuneration:  Rs 35 to 40 thousand per month (consolidated); Person can be stationed in Bengaluru or Mysore and visit the village (Nagavalli in Chamarajnagar district, where the course will be conducted) as and when required. Can be considered as part-time work also.
